Let’s be honest for a second—how many times have we seen a department or organization claim to care about "financial wellness" and then they roll out someone from a credit union or bank to talk at you for an hour? Maybe they hand out a pamphlet about Roth IRAs or try to get you to sign up for a high-yield savings account.
That’s NOT financial wellness.
Real financial wellness isn’t a product. It’s not a sales pitch. And it’s definitely not someone who’s never worn the uniform trying to relate to your paycheck, your OT hustle, or your pension options.
Here’s the truth: cops make good money—but most of us are so burnt out, busy, or undertrained in this area that the money ends up slipping through our fingers. Credit cards. Car loans. Too many Amazon boxes on the porch. Sound familiar?
And yet—this stress is 100% preventable.
When we talk about officer wellness, we always focus on mental health, physical health, maybe even spiritual health. But we leave out financial wellness. That’s a miss. Because money stress is often the root cause of anxiety, of tension at home, of short fuses on the job.
I’ve been on the job for years, and I’m telling you—learning how to manage money well changed my life. And that’s why I teach it now.
Cops respond best to real-world, boots-on-the-ground training—not commission-driven sales pitches. I once ran a training where an officer pulled me aside afterward and said, “That’s the first time someone actually explained this stuff in a way that made sense—now I actually know what to do next.”
When you get control of your money, you gain control over your peace of mind. That’s the kind of “wellness” that sticks—not a retirement pitch from a guy in a tie. You don’t need to be sold something. You need to be taught by someone who gets it. Who lives it.
Let’s start treating financial wellness like the essential officer wellness topic it truly is.
